Bunker Path Bunnik

Poplars protect the sky. Intense sunset near Castle Rhijnauwen (Bunnik, Utrecht, Netherlands).

The bunkers in the foreground were built during the 1st World War. The Netherlands were neutral but anticipated the future. The bunkers were put back into use in the run-up to the Second World War. In the end, they never served. The road is called Bunker Path.

Photo was taken during the 1st Waterline Walking Tour. The route led in the evening past numerous forts and fortifications in the Utrecht area.
